Fairy Tale of the Kings is an epic and poetic dance performance that, in a sensitive and dramatic manner,  explores the life story of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and unveils perspectives that are still known little about. The main protagonist of the performance is not only Čiurlionis himself, in three different ages, and not only women who had played crucial roles in his life (his first love Marija Moravska, his patron Bronislava Volman, his wife Sofija Kymantaitė), but also his CREATIVE WORK, the true essence of his being. In this dance performance, Čiurlionis’ extraordinary and deep inner world, that had become his torture and God’s gift in one, will come alive on stage. It will be embodied by 25 young artists from he A|CH Theatre’s Juniors class.

“In this performance, it is important for me to restore, with maximum precision, the psychological portrait of Čiurlionis – his bond with his creative works, his relationships with women, his pre-matured and tragic fate when his soul, drown in poverty and darkness, with no timely recognition of his genius, abandons this world long before his body does…”, says Anželika Cholina, director, choreographer and librettist of this dance performance.

The musical material of Fairy Tale of the Kings is full of tender Lithuanian spirit. This soundtrack is complied of the most beautiful interpretations of works written by Čiurlionis, along with musical pieces dedicated to him by other Lithuanian composers.

“This performance is a reminder to all of us about the works of this outstanding Lithuanian genius and impact his artistic legacy has made. In it, I have attempted to convey, in the most authentic manner I was able to, the dramatic life story of Čiurlionis. I believe that viewers’ hearts will be moved and deeply impacted by the national pride, powerful direction and choreography, aesthetics and symbolisms. I also believe that these hearts will then carry the message on and will create the legacy of this story and memories of this performance for the future generations…”, says Anželika Cholina.

The premiere of the dance performance Fairy Tale of the Kings will not only culminate the 25th jubilee season of the A|CH Theatre, but will also become one of the key highlights of Lithuania’s cultural events agenda of 2025 that centers on commemoration of the important date – the 150th anniversary of Čiurlionis birth.
